May 24, Puente la Reina by Sean Denmark

The pilgrim asked me to take
a picture of him &
as I did he smiled
& lifted his Coke &
sandwich. He said it
was for his wife,
to prove he’s eating.
He sends, in my
imaginings, three pictures
a day for her to
feed her love on &
if he walks from St. Jean
all the way to
Santiago some
hundred strangers
will document his meals
& he’ll have a hundred
pilgrim’s views
of what he lived on.
