the window went away
             and there was darkness
in and above it
the outline of a body by the door
and from it came silence
in and around it silence
from the car there was no movement
and time was like it is and isn’t
frozen
until that moment went away
released like a breath
and the car moved forward
and the road moved backward
and it was all in the past either way
that moment  the window          the car          the body the road
there in the darkness

Tom Pescatore can sometimes be seen wandering along the Walt Whitman bridge or down the sidewalks of Philadelphia’s old Skid Row. He might have left a poem or two behind to mark his trail. He maintains a poetry blog: amagicalmistake.blogspot.com.
